COVID-19

The COVID-19 pandemic that hits Malaysia from early this year bring us to live in a new norm. 1 meter physical distancing, wearing a face mask, temperature measurement before entering any premises are among the new norm that must be followed by us. Since the first Movement Control Order (MCO) that was announced by Prime Minister and the introduction of Standard Operational Procedure (SOP) by Ministry of Health (MOH), we are required to measure body temperature, wash our hand and record the attendance before entering a premise. The SOP has caused a chaos to most of us and we can see a long queue everywhere in public area especially supermarket.

The problem has motivated a group of researchers in FBKT to innovate an integrated screening system by combining all these three “must do” elements as stipulated in SOP. The first prototype was ready by end of May due to the difficulty to get the raw materials due to MCO. The first and second prototypes were allocated at Masjid Dr. Tengku Faiz, UMK Jeli Campus to be used during Jumaat prayer.

And, as a preparation to welcome new students amidst the non-stop pandemic, UMK has requested 45 units of the system to be placed at faculties, dormitory, café and all strategic locations in campuses
