FACULTY OF BIOENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY
Universiti Malaysia Kelantan

Bachelor of Industrial Materials Technology with Honours

Materials form the foundation of every modern technology, from semiconductors and batteries to biomedical devices and sustainable construction. The Bachelor of Industrial Materials Technology with Honours prepares graduates to design, process, characterise, qualify, and scale materials solutions that support Malaysia’s and ASEAN’s strategic industries. Reflecting its evolution from “Applied Science” to a technology-driven, industry-centred degree, the programme focuses on transforming raw resources into high-value materials and reliable processes that meet the demands of manufacturing, performance, and sustainability.

Students gain a strong foundation in metals, ceramics, polymers, and composites, and further develop their expertise through courses such as coatings and surface engineering, joining and welding technology, materials characterisation, quality control, nanotechnology, and advanced materials. The curriculum integrates emerging skills including digital manufacturing, materials informatics, lifecycle sustainability, and techno-entrepreneurship to ensure graduates remain competitive in the age of Industry 4.0 and Industry 5.0.

Learning emphasises practical application and problem-solving. Laboratory-based projects, industry-linked case studies, and capstone experiences allow students to work with real-world challenges such as cost, reliability, standards, and compliance. Industrial training further strengthens technical and soft skills while providing exposure to key sectors such as electronics, automotive, aerospace, petrochemicals, energy storage, medical devices, and advanced manufacturing.

Graduates are equipped to become versatile materials technologists capable of selecting and engineering materials, optimising their microstructures and surfaces, ensuring quality at scale, and validating performance across industries. Career opportunities include roles in process and production engineering, research and development, failure analysis, quality and reliability, and technical consultancy, as well as pathways to postgraduate study or entrepreneurship in material-based technologies.
