The Bachelor of Bioindustrial Technology with Honours focuses on transforming biological resources into innovative products and processes that drive sustainable industrial development. This programme equips students with knowledge and practical skills across biotechnology, applied biology, and industrial process engineering, positioning them to contribute to Malaysia’s bioeconomy and the global transition towards greener, more efficient industries.
Students will explore a broad foundation in microbiology, biochemistry, and chemistry, before advancing into specialised areas such as microbial fermentation, enzyme technology, food and agricultural bioprocessing, downstream and scale-up processes, and industrial biodesign. The curriculum integrates principles of safety, quality control, and entrepreneurship, enabling graduates to bridge the gap between laboratory innovation and industrial-scale production.
The programme is aligned with the goals of the National Biotechnology Policy and the aspirations of the 4th Industrial Revolution, where biotechnology is central to creating alternatives to resource-intensive and environmentally harmful chemical processes. Students will also be introduced to emerging technologies such as biorefinery concepts, bioenergy, bioplastics, and sustainable biomaterials, preparing them to be adaptable innovators in a rapidly evolving bioindustrial landscape.
Graduates of this programme will be ready for careers in biotechnology-based industries, food and agriculture processing, bioenergy, biomanufacturing, pharmaceuticals, quality assurance, research and development, and entrepreneurial ventures.
